Usually casting aluminum alloys are divided into Al - Si alloy casting, Al, Cu alloy casting, Al - Mg alloy, Al - zinc alloy casting, etc.

The feature of the casting of Aluminum alloy and Applications:

(1)、Al - Si alloy casting (see table 1)

Features: easy melting and casting, casting performance is good.

application

ZL101 

Suitable for casting thin-walled, large and complex shape, strength less demanding various parts, such as pump housing, gear box, instrument case (frame), and parts and other home appliances, etc, also for sand casting and metal casting. 

ZL101A 

Excellent mechanical properties, suitable for motorcycles, auto parts (especially as motorcycle car wheels material) and household appliances, quality castings of various structures on the instrumentation. Its usage is currently second only to ZL102. Apply with sand and metal casting. 

ZL102 

It can be used for a variety of complex shapes and thin-walled casting, also for strength less demanding thin-walled, large-scale, complex shape of metal or sand casting. Whether for metal type casting or sand mold casting, ZL102 is a civilian product with the most varieties of a casting Aluminum alloy. 

ZL104 

Production complex shape, size large and has a large load power structures, such as the turbocharger housing, the cylinder head, cylinder liner and other parts. Using sand and metal casting, sand casting section applies.

ZL105、ZL105A              

Suitable for complex shape, larger size, there is a significant load power structure. Such as a turbocharger housing, the cylinder head, cylinder liner and other parts. ZL105A is to reduce the impurity elements of ZL105 Fe content, increase the compressive strength of the alloy has better mechanical properties than ZL105, with casting quality of castings.

ZL106

It can be used as general load of structural parts and requires good air tightness and parts to work at higher temperatures, mainly uses sand and metal casting.

ZL107

ZL107 have excellent casting and mechanical properties, welding and machining performance in general, somewhat less corrosion resistance, suitable for the production of dynamic load or withstand normal structure and airtight static load less demanding parts. Multi-purpose is sand mold casting.

ZL108

Since the Si-containing is high in ZL108, plus adding Mg, Cu, Mn, the alloy casting is with excellent performance, small thermal expansion coefficient, good wear resistance, high strength, and has good heat resistance. But slightly lower corrosion resistance. It’s suitable for production of piston internal combustion engine and wear-resistant parts and other requirements required size, volume stable parts. Mainly adopt the die-casting and metal casting. Sand casting may be used also.

ZL109 

This is a complex alloying of Al-Si-Cu-Mg-Ni alloy, since the Si content increase, and joined the Ni, the alloy has excellent high temperature strength, wear resistance and corrosion resistance. Suitable for production of internal combustion piston engine and requires wear and size, volume stable parts. Mainly use metal casting and sand casting.

ZL111

For the casting of complex shape to withstand significant load power structures (such as structural parts of aircraft engines, water pumps, fuel pumps, impeller, etc.), requires air tightness and work better at higher temperatures of the parts. Mainly uses metal and sand casting, die casting may be adopted too.

ZL114A    

For the casting of complex shape to withstand significant load power structures (such as structural parts of aircraft engines, water pumps, fuel pumps, impeller, etc.), requires air tightness and work better at higher temperatures of the parts. Mainly uses metal and sand casting, die casting may be adopted too.

ZL115    

It has good casting properties and high mechanical properties, corrosion resistant to seawater. The project is mainly used for heavy load structures and other parts, such as the valve housing, impeller. Mainly uses sand and metal casting.

ZL116

The grain of alloy is refined by removing Zn & Sb from ZL115 and adding Ti & Be. The harmful effect of Fe impurities get cut, so that the alloy has good casting performance, airtight performance and high mechanical properties. Suitable for cast bear big load power structures, such as some of the parts in the aircraft, missiles and civilian products require comprehensive performance better various parts. Mainly uses sand and metal casting.

ZL117

It’s suitable for internal combustion engine piston casting of high wear-resisting casting, brake pads, and other requirements, volume stability and high strength of structure. Mainly use metal mold casting, sand casting is also available.

(2)、Al-Cu-based casting alloys (see table -2)

 Features: 3% to 11% copper, Mn and Ti appropriately can significantly improve the room temperature, high temperature strength and casting properties..

Application

ZL201

Suitable for casting work under high temperature (200-300 ℃) of the structure or room temperature under high dynamic load and static load of parts, and work in low temperature (70 ℃) of the parts. Mostly use sand casting.

ZL201A

Can be used to work at 300 ℃ of parts or at room temperature under high dynamic or static load of parts. Mainly use sand casting.

ZL202

ZL202 have good casting properties and high temperature strength, hardness and wear resistance, but poor corrosion resistance. Suitable for casting working temperature at 250 ℃ load small parts, such as the cylinder top. Mainly use sand casting and metal casting.

ZL203

Suitable for casting working temperature below 250 ℃ under load small parts and temperature have larger load of parts, such as instrument parts, crankshaft box, etc. Mainly use sand casting and low pressure casting.

ZL204A

This is a high-purity, high-strength cast Al-Cu alloys, also has good ductility and better welding and cutting performance, but poor casting performance. Suitable for casting has a large load of the structure, such as bearing, arms, etc. Mainly use sand casting and low pressure casting.

ZL205A

It has good ductility and corrosion resistance, excellent cutting and welding properties, but poor casting performance. It’s  suitable for casting large load-bearing structures and some of the air tightness requirement of parts. Mainly USES sand casting, low pressure casting, metal casting is also available.

ZL207

ZL207 has the very high high temperature strength and casting performance, welding and machining performance is generally, but strength at room temperature is not high. Suitable for cast work under 400 ℃ temperature of various structures. Such as aircraft engine valve shell, some of the heat resistant components such as oil refining industry. Mainly use sand casting and low pressure cast

ZL209

ZL209 alloy tensile strength, yield point, high temperature strength are higher than ZL201A, welding and machining performance is good, but the casting performance and elongation are poor. Suitable for casting work under high temperature requirements wear-resisting of various components, such as internal combustion engine parts, etc.. Mainly use sand casting.

(3)Al-Mg-based casting alloy (see table -3)

Feature: the alloy density is small, and has high mechanical properties, excellent corrosion resistance, good cutting performance, processing surface bright and beautiful

Application:

ZL301

Good corrosion resistance, excellent cutting performance, welding performance is relatively good, high intensity, good anodic oxidation resistance. But the casting process is complex, operational problems, and easy to produce cast loose, hot cracking and other defects. Suitable for casting working temperature at 150 ℃ under the corrosive medium, such as in various parts of the large load.

ZL303

Resistance to high temperature strength is better than ZL301, good erosion resistance (a little worse than ZL301), superior cutting performance, good welding performance, casting performance is better than the ZL301 but no heat treatment, which makes the mechanical properties is much lower than ZL301. Suitable for casting under water, chemical, gas and other corrosive medium under medium load of aero engine, missile, the internal combustion engine, the chemical pump, oil pump, petrochemical pump shell, rotor, blade, etc. Mainly use pressure casting and sand casting.

ZL305

Good overall performance of the alloy, strong resistance to stress corrosion, but poor mechanical properties at high temperatures. Suitable casting Aircraft, engine, chemical pumps, oil pump, petrochemical pump casing, rotor, blades and other parts which bear a greater work load at 100 ℃ less water, chemical, gas and other corrosive medium. Mainly use sand casting.

(4) Al-Zn based casting alloy

Features: These alloys natural aging tendency of large, can get higher strength without heat, but the disadvantage of these alloys is poor corrosion resistance, high density, prone to hot cracking during casting.

Application:

1. ZL401    

ZL401 casting performance is very good, small craters and hot tearing tendency, good mechanical properties, welding and cutting performance, but big proportion, low plasticity, corrosion resistance is poor. More for die-casting and structures on the mold, template and temperature does not exceed 200 ℃, withstand moderate load of aviation, internal combustion engines, vehicles and other products. Mainly use pressure casting, also with sand and metal casting.

2. ZL402

Class natural aging alloy tendency of large, no heat can get higher strength, but the disadvantage of these alloys is poor corrosion resistance, high density, prone to hot cracking during casting.
